Two more big names in classic rock are teaming up to give their fans fun in the sun this summer. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Peter Frampton, who have been touring together for decades, have announced the first of 12 dates together at outdoor “sheds” aka amphitheaters. As you’ll see below, there are many gaps to fill in.
With sales beyond 30 million worldwide, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to build on the legacy that began over 40 years ago in Jacksonville, Florida. Their last album, Last of a Dyin’ Breed, debuted at #14 on the Billboard Top 200, making it their highest charting album since 1977. Led by core members Gary Rossington (guitar), Johnny Van Zant (vocals) and Rickey Medlocke (guitar), along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, the band also includes Mark “Sparky” Matejka (guitar), Johnny Colt (bass), Peter Keys (keyboards), Dale Krantz Rossington (Honkettes backing vocals) and Carol Chase (Honkettes backing vocals).
Frampton is best known for his fifth solo album, Frampton Comes Alive!, released in 1976 as a two-record set. Immediately upon release, the album launched him into the stratosphere with huge sales, hit singles and arena tours. Alive! was #1 for ten weeks and remains one of the best-selling live albums of all time. He just released a new solo acoustic album, Acoustic Classics, with 11 stripped-down versions of songs like “Show Me the Way,” “I’m In You,” and “Baby I Love Your Way.”
Both acts are also touring separately this spring. Read more about Frampton’s Acoustic Classics album and solo tour here.
