Blind Faith Book, ‘Birth and Death of a Supergroup,’ Coming

Blind Faith, the short-lived supergroup composed of Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech, formed from the ashes of a pair of Britain’s most acclaimed bands of the late 1960s, Cream and Traffic, will be the subject of a new book. Blind Faith: The Birth and Death of a Supergroup, from author Marc Shapiro, arrives October 2, 2026, via Wymer Publishing. More about the title: Blind Faith was the most eagerly anticipated band in 1969. A debut gig at London’s Hyde Park on June 7 [in front of] 100,000 people was indicative of the expectations. When the concert took place, Winwood was just 21 years-old, Clapton was 24, Grech was 22 and Baker, the old man at 29. Their self-titled album, released on July 21, reached number one in both the U.K. and U.S. and was backed up with a tour of the States. But before fans could blink, that was it! It was all over for Blind Faith.

Despite only being around for a matter of months, because of the caliber of the musicians involved, Blind Faith is still talked about nearly six decades later. Its author has chronicled those heady times―the formation, the recording and the gigs in this detailed tome.

As Best Classic Bands contributor Mark Leviton wrote in his Album Rewind of the LP, “The album was a phenomenon, the tour sold out, and the band disintegrated anyway.”
