When news arrived of the death of master guitarist Roy Clark, there was an outpouring of respect from a broad cross-section of celebrities: fellow musicians, a race car driver and even a record-setting test pilot. The country star and longtime host of Hee Haw died November 15, 2018, at 85, from complications of pneumonia.
Here are a sampling of tributes to Clark, calling him “a true southern gentleman” and “greatest guitar and banjo picker ever.”

Dolly Parton was quoted in a statement published by Billboard: “Roy Clark was one of the greatest ever. His spirit will never die. I loved him dearly and he will be missed.”
When the Nashville floods wiped out most of my guitars, Roy heard about it & showed up at a show and gave me one of his. This is who this man was. Constantly giving. I owe him so much. Go say hi to my Papaw for me Roy. You left the world a much better place. #royclark pic.twitter.com/Aus1110BsU

Roy Clark was an amazing musician and entertainer. He made pickin’ look fun to all of us young kids. I loved Roy Clark and he loved me. I’ll really miss him but he will not miss me where he’s at. There’s no missing in Heaven.

Very sad to hear about the passing of a fellow Okie and country music artist Roy Clark. Roy was one of the first country artist I ever saw on TV. Prayers for his family.

Dwight Yoakam, via his Facebook page: “A deceptively talented, and disarmingly charming musician, who became a warm and familiar friend to millions on TVs in living rooms across America. Always with a self deprecating wink, a mischievous smile and twinkle in his eye. Rest peacefully Roy…”
