The first-ever Loudwire Music Awards—described in a press release as “the ultimate rock ’n’ roll award ceremony and concert”—announced today (July 19) that Rob Halford of Judas Priest will be this year’s recipient of the Lemmy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award is named in honor of late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Each year, this award “will go to an artist who embodies the spirit of Lemmy and pure rock ’n’ roll,” says the release. Halford will join Black Sabbath guitarist and fellow heavy metal icon Tony Iommi, who—it was announced last week—will be presented with the Courage Award, “which recognizes not only his unparalleled musical output, but his absolute bravery in his battle with cancer.”
Going forward, these awards will be named the Lemmy and Iommi, respectively, and presented to future generations of deserving artists.

“At long last the metal stars are aligned and I’m stoked to attend this year’s Loudwire Awards show,” says Halford in the release. “I’m excited to shout hails with horns up for all of my friends at Loudwire and all the bands and the fans! It’s going to be a hell of a crazy night of good times and major surprises!”
In other Judas Priest news, Sony Music Entertainment and the band announced today that “Judas Priest: Road To Valhalla,” a new mobile game for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, is now available in the App Store.
Download the game here.
The app features new visuals and gameplay set to the songs “Halls of Valhalla,” “Breaking the Law,” “Turbo Lover,” “Electric Eye” and “Painkiller” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming.”
According to a press release for the game, “Judas Priest: Road To Valhalla innovates by making isolated song stems (e.g., drums, vocals, guitar) from the 2016 Battle Cry album available to players exclusively within the game. Using an innovative visual mechanic, players must fill ‘stem meters’ to construct the full song and progress through each level of the game.”
“When we set out to make this game, we wanted to give fans a new kind of visual listening experience” said Halford, who also appears in a series of exclusive video clips throughout the game.
