As Wiedlin notes, “If you ever wondered what a little weirdo’s life was like, look no further. The Go-Go’s had a lot of fun, a lot of tales to tell, and some tears. This book goes way beyond that, because frankly, there’s a whole lot more to know about me. I’ve had a helluva life thus far!”
From the publisher’s announcement: The Go-Go’s were the first all-woman rock group to write their own songs, play their own instruments, and hit number one on the Billboard chart. That 1981 album, Beauty and the Beat, was recorded by the lineup of Belinda Carlisle, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Charlotte Caffey and Wiedlin. As guitarist and lyricist, Wiedlin helped define that revolution. In her memoir, she shares the raw, unvarnished journey of an artist who overcame it all.
From the early L.A. punk scene, “Our Lips Are Sealed,” co-written by Wiedlin, catapulted the band to fame. The Go-Go’s hit dizzying heights, only to splinter apart in a whirlwind of touring, tension, and chaos rivaling any band of the era. Yet her story goes far beyond the stage.
TMI is a vivid account of rock excess and Hollywood drama. Wiedlin, born May 20, 1958, opens up about childhood tragedy, mental health struggles, shattered relationships, and her own relentless reinvention. She tells how she taught herself music from scratch, worked as a “slave” in a world-famous BDSM dungeon, and became the world’s first atheist minister.
The Go-Go’s were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. Their biggest hits also include “We Got the Beat,” “Vacation” and “Head Over Heels.”
As a solo artist, Wiedlin has released half a dozen albums and was the driving force behind the punk band froSTed. She has been an actress with a variety of film and television roles among her credits. She currently resides in the Bay Area, splitting her time between music, painting, writing, and dog rescue.
