As if Thursday night’s (Sept. 21) opener of Gregg Allman’s Laid Back Festival in New Jersey wasn’t jam-packed enough with classic rock stars–Jackson Browne, Little Steven, Peter Wolf, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band–favorite son Bruce Springsteen made a surprise guest appearance.

The 2017 festival is “presented in the spirit of its beloved co-founder” and its six dates, spanning Sept. 21 through Oct. 14, will also feature performances by Steve Winwood, Garland Jeffreys, Sheryl Crow, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Gregg Allman Band featuring Devon Allman, and others.

The concert was at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

Watch Wolf sing a lively version “Freeze-Frame” and then “It’s Been a Long Time” and “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” with Springsteen

And here’s a (better) clip of “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out”

Springsteen also joined Browne for two songs including a performance of “Take it Easy”

Earlier in the week, Springsteen did a dress rehearsal at Monmouth University for his upcoming Springsteen on Broadway run that’ll take place at the Walter Kerr Theater this fall and winter. The Sept. 22 performance at the campus’ Pollak Theatre was in front of an audience estimated at 200.

Tickets are available here and here.
