The Rolling Stones Announce ‘Foreign Tongues’ Studio Album

The Rolling Stones’ Foreign Tongues album cover design is based on caricatures of Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger.
Well over six decades after they formed, the Rolling Stones have announced a new studio album, Foreign Tongues. The title, coming July 10, 2026, was revealed at 12N ET today (May 5, 2026), following a customary teaser campaign that began in April in which a “new” band named “The Cockroaches” was touted on posters and other tactics in various London neighborhoods. Internet sleuths quickly determined that the nom de plume referred to the World’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band, as the name was previously used by the Stones dating back to 1977. A URL for that name was also registered to Universal Music Group, their label.
Concurrent with the April rumors was the arrival of the album’s first release, the blues-y “Rough and Twisted,” a limited edition, vinyl-only offering (though initial reports had incorrectly identified it as “Mr. Charm”). The title quickly sold-out.
Foreign Tongues, again produced by Andrew Watt—he helmed their 2023 release, Hackney Diamonds—features 14 songs across a blindingly large number of formats. The recordings include tracks alongside their core collaborators including Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford and Steve Jordan. It also includes a special appearance from Charlie Watts, captured during one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021. Additional contributions come from guest artists Steve Winwood, Paul McCartney, Benmont Tench, Robert Smith of The Cure and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
A limited edition box set includes CD in digi-sleeve with 16-page lyric booklet, 7” art print, foldout poster, and Blu-ray featuring Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround and Hi-Res Stereo audio. The album is available to order in the U.S. here, in Canada [coming here] and in the U.K. here.
The Foreign Tongues album cover design from American artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn, originally teased on May 3, is a composite of caricatures of Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Mick Jagger. Jagger is expected to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 6 to discuss the album.

Reflecting on the recording process, Jagger said, “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis [Studios]. It was a very intense few weeks. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
Richards added, “The album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
Wood said, “The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
