When Paul McCartney announced the initial dates of his 2018 “Freshen Up” tour, the 76-year-old expressed interest in playing some club dates, to get back to the intimacy of performing before a few hundred fans. As we know, he played such a date on June 9, in Liverpool when he toured the city of his birth with TV host James Corden for an episode of “Carpool Karaoke.”
The next of these spontaneous dates is coming up this week, in London, at an undisclosed location. McCartney’s Twitter account announced on July 18 the opportunity for fans to “attend a secret event” there “this week.”
The instructions indicate that those hoping to attend must “post a short video using the hashtag #UnderTheStaircase.”
The “Freshen Up” tour will also be his first outing following the release of his new studio album, Egypt Station, coming Sept. 7 on Capitol Records. As of July 23, the tour consists of 12 dates in Canada, the U.K., Poland and Austria. The U.K. dates sold out almost instantly.
