Despite the musician’s death on May 27, Gregg Allman’s Laid Back Festival is returning for 2017 for three dates in September and three (so far) in October, each featuring numerous classic rock stars.
The 2017 festival is “presented in the spirit of its beloved co-founder.”
Jackson Browne, Peter Wolf and Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band are each scheduled for at least three. Steve Winwood and Garland Jeffreys are each doing two. Sheryl Crow, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul and Scott Sharrard & the Brickyard Band also on the bill. (See the specific dates and lineups below.)
After the tremendous success of 2015’s inaugural fest, the one-day extravaganza expanded in 2016 to five U.S. cities last summer with events headlined and curated by the legendary Allman Brothers Band singer.
The festival is named after Allman‘s classic 1973 solo debut, Laid Back, which the classic rocker developed as a separate creative outlet after internal disagreements within the Allman Brothers. The first Laid Back Fest was held at Wantagh’s Nikon at Jones Beach Theater, featuring performances by The Doobie Brothers, Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers, Bernie Williams, Allman himself and more.
Laid Back Festival celebrates not just music but food and drink, showcasing more than 20 regional restaurants, food trucks, breweries, wineries and other artisans at each festival stop.
When he announced the expanded 2016 schedule, Allman said: “We had so much fun last year [2015] that it seemed like we should try this in other towns…so we’re coming back and taking it on the road!”
