Last December 9, Bruce Springsteen called into the Springsteen channel on SiriusXM to reveal that he had had a change of heart. He originally thought he’d do “a couple of shows. And then a small series of shows… around the country,” to support the release of the ambitious The Ties That Bind: The River Collection box set released last fall.
But after thinking about it further, he said: “If you’re gonna get everybody together for a show as specific as this one then you might as well play it out a few times and get around to seeing everybody.”
So The River tour became a full-fledged U.S. tour which then expanded to dozens of dates overseas (see below). Tickets are available here.
Springsteen the E Street Band have extended the U.S. run of The River tour with ten shows highlighted by a “hometown” three-night stand at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on August 23rd, 25th and 28th. The new dates will take the classic rock legend to a few midwest and northeast markets, including Chicago and Philadelphia, wrapping up with a show at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA on September 14th.

This is the 2nd round of tour dates to be added since the tour kicked off in Pittsburgh on January 16th. Shows have been lasting close to three and a half hours with over 30 songs being performed by the now 66-year-old and his band. Following the complete performance of 1980’s The River, songs have included well known favorites “Dancing in the Dark,” “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run.”
