Well, this is a pleasant surprise! On the heels of Tuesday’s (September 6) announcement that Stevie Nicks will be touring this fall with Pretenders on a 27-city North American tour, comes word that Pretenders are releasing a new album – Alone – their first in eight years. The recording arrives October 21 via BMG Rights Management U.K.; pre-order it here.
Frontwoman Chrissie Hynde – who turned 65 on September 7 – is said to have recorded the album in Nashville, TN. Alone was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. The band’s previous album was 2008’s Break Up the Concrete though Hynde released a solo album in 2014, Stockholm, and her memoirs, Reckless, last year.

Hynde talked to BBC Radio’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on September 7 about the album and tour: “I’m excited to get back on the road with Martin Chambers, the original Pretenders drummer.” She shared that “the album took just two weeks to record and I did the vocals in two days.” She described the first single, “Holy Commotion,” as “kind of a dance track, I guess.” Click below to hear the two minute interview and a segment of the song.
