For more than four decades, Hot Tuna—formed during the late ’60s peak of Jefferson Airplane by that band’s guitarist, Jorma Kaukonen, and bassist, Jack Casady—has been recording and touring almost consistently, playing both electric and acoustic blues and roots-based music. The two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will head out on a new tour this summer and fall. (See dates below.)
Hot Tuna served last year as openers on the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Wheels of Soul tour. Kaukonen and Casady recently received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award for their involvement in Jefferson Airplane in the ’60s and early ’70s. They also recently performed in a special PBS “Great Performances” concert, The Grammy Salute to Music Legends.
Started as a side project during their Jefferson Airplane days, Hot Tuna has always been Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. The two boyhood pals have never wavered in one of the most enduring friendships in rock history. Today they perform both as an acoustic duo and an electric trio, with drummer Justin Guip jining for the latter dates.
