Fleetwood Mac Begin 2018-2019 Tour: Recap

They had two dress rehearsals – with a nationally televised appearance on Ellen on September 5 and a brief, five-song set at the iHeartRadio music festival on September 21. But on October 3, Fleetwood Mac took the wraps off their new lineup in concert in Tulsa, Okla., when they kicked off what is expected to be a world tour that will continue well into 2019 (and beyond?).

The band recently announced a 50th anniversary collection and had promised to include several older songs on the tour’s setlist.

At Thursday’s performance, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks formally introduced two new members – former Split Enz/Crowded House guitarist-vocalist Neil Finn and Heartbreakers’ guitarist Mike Campbell – who replaced longtime Mac guitarist/vocalist/songwriter/producer (you get the picture) Lindsey Buckingham. The latter’s departure was revealed last April 9 and – despite a loooong history of a revolving door to the band’s lineup – was a surprise to the band’s faithful.

At the BOK Center in Tulsa, the new lineup offered two dozen songs that incorporated two hits from Finn’s past as well as a Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers favorite. In addition to numerous Fleetwood Mac hits, the set reached back into its enormous catalog with several Mac classics the band hadn’t performed in decades.

For “Black Magic Woman,” written by the band’s co-founder Peter Green, and which the band reportedly hadn’t played since 1987, Nicks sang lead while Christine McVie on keyboards jammed with Campbell.
