Carl Perkins & Friends (Clapton, Harrison, Starr, Edmunds) Gets 40th Anniversary Edition

A recording session that brought together one of rock ‘n’ roll’s founding figures, Carl Perkins, with a remarkable cast of musicians who had been profoundly influenced by his music, is receiving an expanded reissue for its 40th anniversary. Originally recorded at Limehouse Studios in London in October 1985, Blue Suede Shoes – A Rockabilly Session, Perkins, the legendary songwriter & guitarist behind the title song, is joined by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Dave Edmunds and Rosanne Cash. It arrives Nov. 13, 2026, via Madfish, and is available to order here.

From the label’s announcement: Produced and directed by Edmunds, the session is a celebration of the music that helped shape rock ‘n’ roll. Harrison and Perkins share vocals on “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby” and “Glad All Over,” Starr joins Perkins and Clapton for “Matchbox,” while Clapton and Perkins trade licks on “Mean Woman Blues” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.” Edmunds appears throughout, while Cash joins Perkins for “Jackson” and “What Kind Of Girl.”

Originally broadcast in 1986, this new edition marks the first time the program has been released on Blu-ray, presenting the complete session alongside an extensive collection of additional footage.

The Blu-ray includes the full performance in stereo & ambient 5.1, together with previously unseen material including dress rehearsals, alternative camera edits, interviews & previously unseen performances. Among the highlights are “Sure To Fall” and “Right String Wrong Yoyo,” plus features exploring the origins of “Blue Suede Shoes” and conversations with Johnny Cash, Eric Clapton, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis.

The set also includes a 36-page booklet featuring an essay by Peter Doggett, alongside a wealth of photographs documenting this extraordinary meeting of rock ‘n’ roll legends.
