Cheap Trick’s Big Year: Rock Hall Induction, New LP, Major Tour

Cheap Trick 2016It’s shaping up to be a banner year for Cheap Trick. First came the December news that the band was finally being acknowledged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voting committee for what millions of classic rock fans already knew: they belonged on the inside. They followed that news by announcing that they had inked a deal for their first new studio album in seven years, Bang Zoom Crazy… Hello, which was released on April 1 via Big Machine.

And then in what is being billed as The Rock Hall Three For All, three iconic classic rock bands will hit the road together this summer. A tour starring Heart, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Cheap Trick will kick off on July 14th as the bands embark on a 30+ date trek across the United States. Cheap Trick also has headlining dates this spring and summer (see below).

Cheap Trick are now well into their fourth decade of making catchy ballads combined with hard rock – or what frontman Robin Zander describes as “three great guys and four great chords” in an interview with Hits.

This was Cheap Trick’s first nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite being eligible since 2002. The band will be inducted on April 8th, alongside Chicago, Deep Purple, N.W.A and Steve Miller. Click here for Best Classic Bands‘ coverage of the induction announcement.

Cheap Trick are beloved for their instantly identifiable, hugely influential, brand of pop rock’n’roll. They never dominated the charts like many of their peers. And only two of their albums ever reached the Top 10. (Their most successful release is a live recording, 1979’s Cheap Trick at Budokan. But the durability of the band’s classic tunes like “Surrender,” “I Want You To Want Me,” “Dream Police” and the #1 hit, “The Flame,” continue to receive regular play on classic rock radio.

Take a well-deserved bow, guys!
