Squeeze have added dates to their U.S. tour (with one in Canada) as part of their 50th anniversary celebration. [Their previously announced North American shows will have support by Boy George; many of the new ones will have the English Beat as the opening act.] Squeeze had previously revealed an extensive 2024 tour of the U.K. with dozens of shows scheduled for summer, with a return there in October and November. They’ll be supported for the U.K. shows by special guest Badly Drawn Boy. A pre-sale for the newest U.S. and Canadian concerts takes place on June 19 using the password SQUEEZE2024. Tickets for the general public go on sale June 21 at 10 a.m. local time here.
Squeeze are led as always by Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford. The original lineup blasted to the forefront of the U.K. music scene during the height of the punk revolution. A three-song EP landed them a deal with A&M Records leading to the release of their debut self-titled album. With songwriting hooks and melodies that harkened back to the 60’s British Invasion, that first LP featured “Take Me I’m Yours,” followed by such favorites as “Cool for Cats,” “Up the Junction,” “Pulling Mussels (From a Shell),” “Black Coffee in Bed,” and “Labeled With Love.” The band made an indelible mark on the U.S. in 1981 with the release of their classic hits, “Tempted” and “Hourglass.” Squeeze disbanded in 1999, then reunited in 2007, releasing three new albums: Spot the Difference (2010), Cradle to the Grave (2015), and The Knowledge (2017). Additionally, Difford and Tilbrook have released various solo projects.
The band performed a pair of warmup dates in Twickenham in March and then opened for The Who at London’s Royal Albert Hall to benefit Teenage Cancer Trust.

They’re joined by keyboardist Stephen Lange and drummer Simon Hanson (since 2007) percussionist/back-up singer Steve Smith (vocalist for house music group Dirty Vegas) along with pedal/lap steel guitarist Melvin Duffy (who joined them for the 2019 tour) and a recent addition, Owen Biddle, former bassist for The Roots.

Jump into a conversationThis is a band that I have never listened to enough. What I have listened to has always been excellent. My loss.
