Rick Wakeman leafing through material for The Prog Years 1973-1977 collection

The highly successful solo recording phase for Rick Wakeman is being commemorated with a massive box set covering his mid-’70s prog years. The Prog Years 1973-1977, comprising 32 discs (26-CDs and 6-DVDs) arrived November 17, 2023 in the U.S. and Dec. 1 in the U.K. The collection, limited to 1500 sets, spans the keyboard legend’s successful albums The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and The Knights of the Round Table, live concerts, and much more.

From the September 18 press announcement: In a career that’s now well into its sixth decade, Wakeman has voyaged through time and out to the furthest reaches of sound. And now, the 32-disc The Prog Years 1973-1977 box set turns back the clock to the caped crusader’s imperial phase, when, as a solo artist, he released some of his most ambitious and virtuosic recordings.

The collection also gathers together Wakeman’s Lisztomania, No Earthly Connection and White Rock albums, plus alternate recordings and a slew of live performances, from radio sessions to full concerts.

The box set includes a 60-page hardback scrapbook, 10 postcards, eight full-size replica promotional photos and four A3 posters, plus reproduction press kits.
