Classic rock fans may not instantly recognize the name Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. But the music group has quickly developed a significant resume. Nelson has emerged as a much-sought-after artist in recent years balancing work with his band, as well as his role as Neil Young’s band leader and lead guitarist — and of course, the never-ending road work alongside his father in Willie Nelson & Family.
The group released a new album, Turn Off The News (Build A Garden), on June 14, and today (July 24) Vevo released live performances of two songs from the album, “Bad Case” and “Where Does Love Go.”
On the album, their second full-length release for Fantasy Records, Nelson has sharpened the edges of his singular sound, straddling rock and roll, country, soul, folk and R&B. It includes guest appearances from Young, Willie Nelson, and Sheryl Crow, among others.

The band includes bassist Corey McCormick, drummer Anthony LoGerfo, percussionist Tato Melgar and Logan Metz on slide guitar and keys. They have a busy 2019 tour schedule including dates with Zac Brown Band and the Rolling Stones.

Turn Off The News (Build A Garden) arrives on the heels of Nelson’s collaboration with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper on 2018’s blockbuster film and soundtrack, A Star is Born. Nelson not only co-wrote and co-produced much of the film’s multi-platinum, Oscar-winning soundtrack, he also worked closely with Cooper in crafting Jackson Maine’s musical persona. Nelson, along with his real-life cohorts in Promise of the Real appear in the movie too, performing as Cooper’s (Jackson Maine’s) backing band just as they’ve performed with Young for years.
