by Best Classic Bands StaffMary Chapin Carpenter, Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin will unite this fall for an extensive 2021 tour of the U.S. Each show will feature the three Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriters on stage together, performing songs and sharing stories.
“An Evening with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin: Together in Concert” begins September 29 and continues through December 14. Tickets are available here. See below for the complete tour itinerary.
The 63-year-old Carpenter has won five Grammys (with 15 nominations), two CMA awards, and two ACM Awards. Over the course of her acclaimed career, Carpenter has sold over 15 million records. In 2020, she released two albums—The Dirt and the Stars, and One Night Lonely, recorded live without an audience at the legendary Filene Center at Wolf Trap in Virginia during the COVID-19 shut down. Her 1992 album, Come On Come On, has sold more than four million copies in the U.S. She’s earned nine Top 10 country singles including the #1 hit, “Shut Up and Kiss Me.”
Cohn, who turned 61 on July 5, solidified his place as one of this generation’s most compelling singer-songwriters, combining the precision of a brilliant tunesmith with the passion of a great soul man. He won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1992, thanks to the success of his 1991 self-titled debut, which featured such songs as “Walking in Memphis” and “Silver Thunderbird.”
Rooted in the rich ground of American rhythm and blues, soul and gospel, he weaves vivid, detailed, often drawn-from-life tales. His most recent album is 2019’s collaboration with gospel legends Blind Boys of Alabama titled Work To Do.
Colvin won her first Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album with her debut album, Steady On. She has been a mainstay of the singer-songwriter genre ever since, releasing thirteen albums. She triumphed at the 1998 GRAMMY Awards, winning both Record and Song of the Year for “Sunny Came Home.” Colvin, who turned 65 on January 10, was recognized for her career accomplishments when she was honored with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award by the Americana Music Association. She was inducted into the 2019 Austin City Limits Hall of Fame alongside legendary artists Lyle Lovett and Buddy Guy.
In the June 15 tour announcement, Colvin said, “This is huge for all of us who love to play and listen to live music, and we hope to see you out there. I can’t wait!”
