Billy Joel paid tribute to ZZ Top’s Dusty Hill when he returned to the stage on August 4, 2021. The Piano Man’s performance at Boston’s Fenway Park was his first full-length concert since March 6, 2020. The 24-song set included such classic rock favorites as “You May Be Right,” “Uptown Girl,” and “Scenes From an Italian Restaurant.”
Fourteen songs in, Joel and his band started playing “The River of Dreams.” Halfway through, guitarist Mike Delguidice started the familiar chords of ZZ Top’s 1975 favorite “Tush,” as the lyrics “I get up, I get down…” began, with the crowd cheering enthusiastically. Watch it below.
Joel often combines “The River of Dreams” with another classic rock song including Eagles’ “Take it Easy” and the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night.”
For years, Joel has scaled back his live performance schedule, playing a monthly show at New York’s Madison Square Garden while usually performing one other concert each month elsewhere. He has shows in Buffalo, Cincinnati and Austin before he finally resumes his MSG residency on November 5.
