A video for the Tom Petty song “You and Me,” was released on August 23, 2018. The crowd-sourced clip features photos and videos from scores of Petty fans. The track is included on the boxed set, An American Treasure, that arrived on September 28. Petty’s social media platforms had announced on July 20 that a “very special” music video was being created in honor of the musician and “his profound 40 year relationship with his fans.”
“You and Me” (Clubhouse Version)” was recorded on November 9, 2007. The new video weaves clips of Petty, his family and bandmates with images submitted from his fans. (Watch it below).
The original July 20 announcement about the “You and Me” video…
Dear Tom Petty Fans:
We are making a very special music video in honor of
Tom Petty and his profound 40 year relationship with his
fans and we would love for you to help us.
We invite you to share your favorite moment with
Tom and the band.
A picture you took with Tom, a favorite video moment from a
show, or any expression of love for the band that you have
photographed and cherished.
Thanks!
Watch “You and Me,” “brought to you by you”
The An American Treasure box set is a collaboration between Petty’s wife, Dana, his daughter, Adria Petty, Heartbreakers bandmates Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Petty’s longtime studio collaborator, Ryan Ulyate.
The collection will include 60 previously unreleased studio recordings and live material, rarities and more from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, his solo work, and from his earlier band, Mudcrutch.
Watch the video for a previously unreleased track, “Keep a Little Soul,” which, on Aug. 28, had reached #4 on the U.S. Triple A radio chart
The collection’s Sept. 28 release date essentially marked the first year anniversary of Petty’s death on Oct. 2, 2017. (New recordings are released on Fridays worldwide.)
An American Treasure is available in a variety of physical formats: a Super Deluxe 4-CD box set; deluxe 4-CD box set; a standard 2-CD set (with 26 songs) and a 6-LP vinyl box set (coming Nov. 23).
