Santana has added several new dates to their ongoing Las Vegas residency. In addition to the previously announced shows listed below, they will also perform next Jan. 24, 26, 27, 28 and 31, and Feb. 1, 2 and 3. Pre-sale tickets (as well as links for the previously announced shows) are available here and here.
Earlier this year, Santana announced more than 20 shows for 2017 in the ongoing residency at Vegas’ House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Calling this leg of the residency “An Intimate Evening with Santana: The Greatest Hits Live,” the shows take place in an 1,800-seat room. The band (Carlos Santana and his regular current musicians) began its latest run with several dates in May, and will return for more in September and November, before settling in again for the newly announced shows.
In other Santana-related news, Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas revealed in an interview with Music-News.com that he almost didn’t get to sing the vocal on Santana’s smash 1999 hit “Smooth” which Thomas wrote. According to the article, Thomas said, “When we finished the song, which we called ‘Smooth,’ the conversation came around to who should sing it. My first thought was George Michael. In fact, I’d had George in my head when I recorded the vocals in the first place. If you listen to the melody and the cadence, it’s an attempt to emulate his style.” As the article notes, Santana passed on the idea and urged Thomas to sing on his own song.
