Best Classic Bands chooses its content carefully. We write about the events and the people that our readers care about. We don’t take that mission lightly. In recognizing that the Osbourne family has been part of classic rock fans’ lives for decades, we have decided to report on the news that Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne‘s marriage of 33 years appears to be over.

E! News first reported earlier today that the couple have “mutually agreed that Ozzy would move out” of the couple’s Beverly Hills home temporarily and that the split “had nothing to do with Ozzy’s sobriety.” The couple are known to have had difficulties over the years, most recently in 2013 related to Ozzy maintaining his sobriety.

The couple met in 1970 when Sharon, now 63, was just 18, and Ozzy’s band, Black Sabbath, was being managed by her music business entrepreneur Don Arden. She became his manager in 1979; they married in 1982. Her success as his manager led her to start Sharon Osbourne Management and she would eventually oversee the careers of such acts as Lita Ford, Smashing Pumpkins and  Motörhead.

The Osbournes reality TV series featured Ozzy, Sharon and two of their three children, Jack and Kelly, and premiered on MTV on March 5, 2002 and ran for four seasons. Right away, viewers saw that this family was going to be a bit different than such traditional family sitcoms as The Brady Bunch or Leave it to Beaver.

Black Sabbath are in a planned break of their extensive The End tour, which is scheduled to resume on June 1 in Hungary, Budapest and continuing all year with dates in Europe and North and South America.

Best Classic Bands will continue to report any relevant news on this topic. Thanks to John Pascarella for bringing this story to our attention.
