Jeff Lynne opened his 2019 North American tour on June 20 with a 20-song show at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. The performance was his first since he completed a European tour on October 26, 2018, with an almost identical setlist from the ELO catalog, including such crowd pleasers as “Evil Woman,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Don’t Bring Me Down” and “Sweet Talkin’ Woman.”
Eight songs in, Lynne welcomed his opening act, Dhani Harrison, son of Lynne’s friend and bandmate, George Harrison, to perform the Traveling Wilburys’ “Handle With Care.” Dhani sang his father’s parts of the song. Watch it below.
Back on October 22, 2018, Lynne announced 20 North American dates in 2019 for what’s been billed for several years now as Jeff Lynne’s ELO. And it was a relief for his fans on this side of the Atlantic, many of whom were bypassed when last year’s tour – his first North American run since 1981 – consisted of just 12 dates.
Two songs in… “You made a fool of meeee…”
Lynne doesn’t do much talking to the audience. “It’s wonderful to be here… it really is. Thanks for coming,” he said, before starting “All Over the World.”
