More than 30 years after their last headlining show in 1985 at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Daryl Hall and John Oates once again topped the bill at The World’s Most Famous Arena on February 19, 2016.

“It’s the result of years and years of hard work,” Oates told Newsday when the date was initially booked the previous fall. “Everything means more to us now than when we were part of a big machine. No one is pulling our strings. It’s a great place to be.”

The classic rock duo’s 1981-’85 run of 13 Top 10 singles included the #1 hits “Kiss On My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” “Maneater” and “Out Of Touch.”

For their return engagement at the Garden, the duo performed a hit-filled, 16-song set including three encores of five songs.

Hall and Oates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and are the second best-selling duo of all time. If your instinct is to guess Simon & Garfunkel at #1 you would be wrong; the distinction is held by the Carpenters.

Hall and Oates made another appearance at MSG in 2020. When they tour again, tickets will be available here and here.

Hall and Oates played at the Reno Hilton a number of years ago. It was sold out so I talked to my casino host who had tickets so close I could see their boots. I told her I didn’t just want to see their boots I wanted to lick them ~ we had great seats and what a fantastic night that was. If you have the opportunity, don’t miss them.

We’ve seen Hall and Oates no less than five times (maybe more) and we agree that their stage show is excellent. Our only bad experience dealt with the venue and not the show. I love their music and would see them again if the situation arose.

I absolutely loved watching Hall and Oates singing with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. Did you see the smile on Darryl’s face? I thought he would pass out from sheer joy. What great stuff!
