A new six-piece band, the Devon Allman Project, will debut at the Fillmore in San Francisco on Dec. 8, with a number of special guests including Duane Betts. Devon, 45, is one of the sons of the late Gregg Allman, while Betts’ father, Dickey Betts, was a member of the Allman Brothers Band during its formative years.

In addition to Betts, guests at the kickoff gig are expected to include Luther and Cody Dickinson (of North Mississippi All-Stars), Peter Levin (Gregg Allman Band, Blind Boys of Alabama, CSN, Doobie’s etc.), Samantha Fish, Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie, Jeff Beck, Hank Williams Jr.) and Bobby Whitlock (Derek & The Dominos, Dr. John, Rolling Stones, etc.). Peter Levin, a keyboardist in Gregg Allman’s band, will serve as the musical director.

Devon Allman, according to a press release for the San Francisco show, is “the former lynchpin behind such bands as the Royal Southern Brotherhood and Honeytribe.” The new band will feature a percussionist/multi instrumentalist, a Hammond B3 player and an additional guitarist.

Recently, the press release continues, Devon has taken part in an all-star tribute to his father and Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks (who also passed this year) at the Allmans’ own Peachfest, a special celebration at the Grammy Museum in L.A., an emotional return to his father’s hometown, Macon Georgia, where he accepted the key to the city on the elder Allman’s behalf, and will participate in an upcoming event at the Americana Music Fest featuring Buddy Miller, Joan Osborne, and John Paul White (Civil Wars).

The Devon Allman Project plans further dates in 2018. Also, The Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts and Peter Levin will play immediately prior to Dr. John at the Florida Jazz & Blues Jam in Boca Raton, Florida on January 27.

Devon will also be joining the Gregg Allman Band at the Laid Back Festival at the Verizon Amphitheater in Atlanta on October 14.
