Update (6/13/16): ZZ Top have significantly expanded their 2016 U.S. tour. The updated itinerary now spans from August 16 through November 12 (see below).
That Little ol’ Band from Texas will return to North American this summer with their longtime friends Gov’t Mule and Gregg Allman.
Going strong for over 40 years, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members ZZ Top continue to be a touring machine. The bearded duo of singer/guitarist Billy F Gibbons and bassist/singer Dusty Hill, and drummer Frank Beard, aka “the man with no beard,” have rocked audiences with their brand of electrified dirty blues.
Gov’t Mule, formed 20+ years ago by guitarist Warren Haynes and the late bassist Allen Woody, were formerly in The Allman Brothers Band together. Between their unique blending of southern rock with funk and blues and constant touring, Gov’t Mule found a large fan base throughout the country.

In addition to the touring collaboration, Gov’t Mule is also releasing an archival album, The Tel-Star Sessions, on August 5 that contains a cover of ZZ Top’s “Just Got Paid.” Warren Haynes had recently told Consequence of Sound: “Early ZZ Top was definitely an influence on the Mule. ‘Just Got Paid’ was one of the first covers we worked up when we only knew a handful of songs.”
“ZZ Top and the Mule are cut from the same dyed-in-the blues cloth,” says ZZ Top frontman Billy F Gibbons. “I’ve long admired the band and Warren Haynes’ guitar work. He has a certain grit to everything he does. We’re gonna have a fine time.” Audiences can look forward to seeing them belt out classic hits such as “Legs,” “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Tush,” and many more from their 15 studio albums.
This tour will be weaved in as part of a larger tour they will are already set to resume later this summer. ZZ Top’s Hill fractured his shoulder in April causing the band to postpone dates this spring. They tour the U.K. and Europe from June 23 – July 19.
