Update (2/27/2016): Ono was released from the hospital. Her son Sean tweeted the good news (see below).
Yoko Ono was rushed from her Manhattan home late Friday night to the same hospital her husband John Lennon was pronounced dead at, when she showed signs of slurred speech. Early reports that the 83-year-old had suffered a stroke were dispelled by Sean Lennon – her son with the slain former Beatle – and by her longtime publicist as “dehydration” and “flu-like” symptoms. Just after midnight Friday night, Sean Lennon tweeted:
Hey guys it was only rumors from press: was NOT a stroke, just dehydration/tired. She is FINE. Thank you everyone for your concern @yokoono

He followed that up with a second tweet a few minutes’ later:
Only stroke @yokoono had was a Stroke of Genius! 🙂 She’s really fine. Thanks for all the well wishes! Big Love, Sean — Sean Ono Lennon (@seanonolennon) February 27, 2016
Ono’s longtime publicist, Elliot Mintz, posted on Facebook: “earlier this evening yoko was experiencing ‘flu’ symptoms and called her doctor. he thought it would be a good idea for her to go to a local hospital to get a ‘check-up’. she did. it was determined that she was experiencing dehydration,,,,,and that she has the flu. in all likelihood she will be home tomorrow. i spoke with sean who visited with her and have been assured she is doing just fine. i appreciate the fact that so many of you were concerned about her….”
In December 1980, John Lennon was shot while standing in front of The Dakota, their apartment building on West 72 St. on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and rushed to Roosevelt Hospital at 59th St. It’s the same hospital – since renamed Mount Sinai West Roosevelt – that Ono was brought to on Friday evening. Update: Here’s Sean Lennon’s tweet from Saturday afternoon…
Thanks again for everyone’s concern. She’s home and running about as usual. Just the flu in the end. I may go get a flu shot now… — Sean Ono Lennon (@seanonolennon) February 27, 2016
