Scorpions, one of the most successful European rock bands, celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2015. The final concert of their “Sting In The Tale” world tour will be released on September 30 as a concert film, Live In Munich 2012, on DVD and Blu-ray, via Eagle Rock Entertainment. Pre-order is available here.
The band are also the subject of a new book, German Metal Machine: Scorpions in the ’70s, said to be “the first-ever book to focus solely on this period of the band.” The title, authored by Greg Prato, features interviews with former members including Michael Schenker plus members of other bands – like Billy Corgan and Joe Satriani that are admirers. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett wrote the foreword.
With over 100 million records sold, Scorpions initially struggled to reach a wider audience in their home country of Germany, despite success in many other parts of the world. As the DVD announcement states, it’s thus what makes Live In Munich 2012 – a homecoming event at the Olympiahalle in Munich on December 17, 2012– so meaningful for the band.
The band performs many of their classic rock anthems: “Wind Of Change,” “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Send Me An Angel,” “Still Loving You”and many more — all captured in high definition.
Here’s “Loving You Sunday Morning” from the concert…
