London’s historic Hyde Park has given fans amazing concert experiences from many of the world’s most beloved artists. This year is without exception, as it has been announced that Elton John will headline a show on September 11.
British bands Madness (“Our House”) and Status Quo (“Pictures of Matchstick Men”), both of whom were innovative music leaders in their heyday, will open. The Rocket Man was slated to play there for the British Summer Time festival in 2013, but had to cancel due to appendicitis. This concert will be on the heels of another medically related issue, this one affecting Rick Parfitt from classic rock act Status Quo. The singer and rhythm guitarist suffered a heart attack on June 15 after a show with the band in Turkey. Although he has had previous attacks recently and even a quadruple heart bypass surgery, the band’s management says his condition is stable. LeAnn Rimes is also on the bill.
The performances are part of an annual concert called BBCRadio 2 Live: Festival in a Day. Last year’s lineup included Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams, along with The Shires, The Corrs and Giorgio Morodor. This will be the sixth year of the organized festival, which showcases some of the world’s finest artists performing in the Royal Park. You can purchase tickets here.
Known for its rich musical history, fans rush to get tickets for events at the venue. Concerts in Hyde Park usually attract over 50,000 attendees including recent performances by The Who and Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
Legendary singer-songwriter Carole King will be headlining a concert at London’s Hyde Park on July 3rd, performing her masterpiece Tapestry – which just celebrated it’s 45th anniversary – in its entirety for the first time. Don Henley will join the evening of music as opening act. Stevie Wonder headlines on July 10 with support by Pharrell Williams, among others.
