‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ Gets Collectors Edition on Crystal Clear Vinyl

Pink Floyd will release a 50th Anniversary Collectors Edition of The Dark Side Of the Moon on crystal clear vinyl. The new edition, coming April 19, 2024, will be a 2-LP 180g single-sided set, featuring UV artwork printed on the non-groove side. This new edition of the album, announced on Jan. 31, will feature the prism spectrum seen through the playable side of the vinyl while maintaining the best quality sound that fans will expect. It will be packaged in a slipcased gatefold sleeve, with an exclusive poster. It’s available for pre-order in the U.S. here and in the U.K. here.
This is the first time that Pink Floyd has used this pioneering UV printing process on vinyl. The images are printed with a high end UV printer, using UV-Led light to dry the permanent ink on the side without audio on which the image is printed.
It joins a stand-alone edition of the newly remastered album on CD, LP and Blu-ray. Those versions arrived on October 13, 2023, via Legacy Recordings. First released as part of The Dark Side Of the Moon 50th Anniversary box set, they represented the first time that the new remaster of the classic album were available on its own. The Blu-ray contains the Dolby Atmos and a 5.1 Surround mix as well as the remastered Stereo version. The package for the Dark Side remaster comes with commemorative postcards, stickers and a 24-page booklet.
The 2023 remastered edition
Pink Floyd‘s classic album was originally released in 1973 and is considered one of the most iconic and influential of all time, with worldwide sales of over 50 million copies. The famous sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie.
Also part of the album’s 50th anniversary celebration is Dark Side Of the Moon: A Visual History. The Super Deluxe package includes the complete recording history of the album, documentation of all the live performances of the album by the band, previously unpublished photos and illustrations as well as facsimile memorabilia including photos, programs, handbills and passes. This set also contains: Signed and Numbered certificate by the one of the world leading Floyd authorities and author Glenn Povey, reproduction of memorabilia, photos, posters from the era, and a CD of interviews with band recorded in the day.
The first interview is from 1972, where the band discusses been on the road, the Live at Pompeii film, the band are very relaxed and laughing. Rick Wright says at one point, “We understand each other very well. We are very tolerant of each other.” Nick Mason says, “We are all from the British aristocracy with the exception of David Gilmour…” A second longer interview is over 30 minutes long with Wright, where he discusses touring and looking back at the album, the band’s inner workings on how they write and play together, solo albums, along with living in the English countryside.
