Songwriters Hall of Fame 2019 Inductees Announced

Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2019

The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced on Jan. 12 its slate of names for its Annual Induction & Awards Gala on June 13 in New York City.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin, John Prine, Dallas Austin, Missy Elliott and Tom T. Hall were selected from more than two dozen nominees originally announced last November.

The crop of performing songwriter nominees who were not selected: Jimmy Cliff, Chrissie Hynde, Tommy James, Annie Lennox/Dave Stewart, Mike Love, Jeff Lynne and Lloyd Price.

Non-performing songwriters not selected: Tommy Boyce/Bobby Hart, Jerry Fuller, Roger Nichols, Dan Penn/Spooner Oldham and P.F. Sloan/Steve Barri.

Some of the songs from three of the inductees:

John Prine (Angel From Montgomery * Paradise * Sam Stone * I Just Wanna Dance With You * In Spite Of Ourselves)

Cat Stevens (a/k/a Yusuf Islam) (Moonshadow * Morning Has Broken * Peace Train * The First Cut Is The Deepest * Wild World)

Jack Tempchin (Peaceful Easy Feeling * Already Gone * The One You Love * Smuggler’s Blues * You Belong To The City)

The Songwriters Hall of Fame, according to a description provided in the announcement, is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create music around the world. To qualify for induction, a songwriter must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalog of hit songs.

    Rod Argent has written a Hugh amount of hit songs for his group “Argent” The Zombies and for other artist -why isn’t his name listed
    God Gave Rock and Roll to you

    She’s not there
    Time of the Season
    I love you
    And so many more ..I can name if you have the time.
    The Zombies are now 4th place on the list for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..we fans are pushing for 3rd Place
    Rod should be on this list!

      He isn’t mentioned because he isn’t nominated. This is the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame nominees, not the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
