Genesis bassist/songwriter Mike Rutherford isn’t sitting on the porch with his feet up since the superstar band broke up. He’s seen the 2014 publication of his memoir The Living Years and kept busy with his pop-rock band Mike + The Mechanics.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (with Genesis) and Ivor Novello Award winner (for his song “The Living Years”) will next appear with his side group at the Isle of Wight Festival over the second weekend in June, and has a short run of eight concert dates in Germany set for the last week of September (see here). Then in February 2017 he and the Mechanics head out on a comprehensive month-and-a-half long U.K. tour (dates below).
The Mechanics have proven to be a consistent draw even as the band has changed and evolved into its latest lineup with vocalist Andrew Roachford and Canadian-born singer Tim Howar sharing front man duties. With what’s being called “Word of Mouth” tour dates already booked (and on sale), fans can’t help but speculate that in the time between now and then the group might make another album.

Jump into a conversationwhat he needs to do (and phil too) is call up steve hackett and guest on a few of his shows for some classic geneis numbers. phil could still sing blood on the rooftops (lower the key) or even do some acolyte numbers that the 3 of them did in the 1st place……no one wants more phil solo or mike solo anymore, it’s good but it just feels like being force fed – get some “new” old material going, enough with living years and in the air tonight – it’s been done to death already guys……never once heard blood on the rooftops live or even the song “trick of the tail”….in the air tonight and the later stuff, it’s ok, but we’ve heard those ones so many times live it’s getting annoying…..
