Update (1/7): Classic rock fans may be looking to take a well-deserved bathroom break once the first half of Super Bowl 50 ends.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Beyonce will join the previously announced Coldplay as part of the Super Bowl 50 halftime show. Queen Bey was the headliner three years’ ago. Bruno Mars has also been linked to the extravaganza but the league and sponsor Pepsi are still mum on any acts other than Coldplay. GnR anyone?

Update (12/3): In a somewhat surprising choice, the NFL has selected Coldplay as the headlining act for Super Bowl 50 (the league is dropping Roman numerals for this game because an “L” would look, well, weird). Us magazine reports that Bruno Mars will also be involved.

The game will be held on February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The annual showcase has featured many big name rock acts including The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Paul McCartney, Prince, U2, Aerosmith and more.

Update (12/2): The video for the first single, “Adventure Of A Lifetime” shows the band members monkeying around. And Coldplay will be actively touring in 2016 with dates already announced for South America, Europe and the U.K.

Coldplay has announced that they’ll be releasing their seventh album just in time for the holidays. A Head Full of Dreams will be out December 4th, and if you’re extra impatient, you can already stream the first single, “Adventure of a Lifetime.”

The 11-track follow-up (plus a bonus hidden track) to 2014’s more somber, lovelorn Ghost Stories is pure bright-eyed optimism – a jazzy, giddy album that seems to give us some idea of how Chris Martin is feeling these days, over a year post-Gwyneth Paltrow split.

“It’s the sound of us being free and happy and very grateful to be in our group,” Martin told BBC Radio 1 about the overall feel. Members of the four-piece rock band claim to never have had more fun making a record in their 19-year history – and they’ve also hinted in past interviews that their seventh album may be their last. Last year, Martin said in the same radio interview, “It’s our seventh thing, and the way we look at it, it’s like the last Harry Potter book or something like that. Not to say that there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something.”

The forthcoming record features guest appearances by Beyoncé, Swedish pop star Tove Lo, soul singer Merry Clayton and Noel Gallagher of Oasis. Coldplay chose not to tour Ghost Stories, but they’ve announced definite plans to take their seventh LP around the world. More details on tour dates to come.
