For 29 years now Neil and (now-ex-wife) Pegi Young’s all-acoustic show to raise funds for San Francisco’s The Bridge School they co-founded has fostered very cool one-of-a-kind performances from a variety of artists. This year promises more special musical moments from roots rockers Young and Promise of the Real, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, Ryan Adams and Gary Clark Jr., as well as modern rockers Spoon and ethereal experimentalist St. Vincent, Ben Harper, plus long ago Young Crazy Horse bandmate, Springsteen E-Street sidekick and artist in-his-own-right Nils Lofgren. (Others may be added to the bill.)
The show returns to the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA on October 24th and 25th. It helps fund the operations of Bridge School, which the Youngs were motivated to help start by their son Ben, who was born with cerebral palsy, and helps kids with severe speech and physical impairments fully participate in their communities. The concerts for it that began in 1986 and have been held annually since ’88 have featured such marquee names over the years as The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Lou Reed, Tom Waits and many more. The acoustic format usually inspires unique collaborations. What will this year’s bill yield?
