UB40 to Celebrate 45th Anniversary With ‘UB45’ Tour, Album
by Best Classic Bands StaffUB40 are celebrating their 45th anniversary with the announcement of their upcoming “UB45” U.S. summer 2023 tour, kicking off on Independence Day, July 4. The legendary reggae-pop band will perform their worldwide hit singles including “Red Red Wine,” “Food For Thought,” “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You,” and more. Many of the shows with feature such special guests as Maxi Priest, Inner Circle, Third World and Big Mountain. Tickets are available here. To further mark the anniversary, UB40 will also be releasing a new album this summer titled UB45, with new songs and reworked classics (release date TBA).
With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, the multi-cultural band originally formed in Birmingham, U.K., in 1978, and have charted more than 50 singles in the U.K. Singles Chart. UB40‘s current lineup features Jimmy Brown (drums), Robin Campbell (guitar/vocals), Earl Falconer (bass/vocals), Norman Lamont Hassan (percussion/vocals), Martin Meredith (keyboards/WX7/saxophone), Tony Mullings (keyboards), Laurence Parry (trumpet/flugal/trombone), Ian Thompson (saxophone), and lead vocalist Matt Doyle, who joined the band in 2021, taking over for the retired Duncan Campbell.
Originating as group of young friends from Birmingham with working-class origins to creating the world’s most successful reggae band, UB40 has gone on to becoming four-time Grammy® nominees for “Best Reggae Album,” selling millions of records, and spending a combined 11 plus years on the UK album charts with more than 50 UK hit singles including “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You,” “Red Red Wine,” “I Got You Babe (Ft. Chrissie Hynde),” and many more.
