Singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop is coming out of retirement to perform a Farewell Tour in 2027. The news coincides with the 50th anniversary reissue of his debut album, Careless. The tour will feature support from American folk singer-songwriter David Wilcox, with Bishop sharing stories and performing his greatest hits alongside an all-star band. The U.S. run will be followed by U.K. and Ireland dates in October, with more U.S. shows to be announced.

The Oscar and two-time GRAMMY-nominated Bishop is well known for such songs as “On and On,” “It Might Be You” (the theme from Tootsie), “Save It For a Rainy Day,” “Separate Lives” (the theme from White Nights), and “Animal House.” His appearance, opposite John Belushi, as “Charming Guy With Guitar” is one of many memorable scenes in the 1978 film, National Lampoon’s Animal House. Bishop has written over 650 songs and released 20 albums with more than 15 million records sold.

The Oct. 9 announcement follows the release of the 50th anniversary vinyl release of Careless (featuring guest performances by Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan), including Billboard Hot 100 hit “On and On” and two new bonus tracks. The new edition features a brand new full-color album cover and liner notes for the first time with unreleased photos.

Originally released in 1976, Careless established Bishop, born Nov. 14, 1951, as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation. The album featured contributions from Clapton, who performed electric slide guitar on “Sinking in an Ocean of Tears” and the guitar solo on “Save It for a Rainy Day.” Clapton and Garfunkel returned as guests on Bishop’s 2025 album THIMK, along with Graham Nash, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Jimmy Webb and many more.

The new edition of Careless includes Bishop’s first-ever liner notes, and his personal reflections on the album.

The special anniversary edition of Careless features a newly designed gatefold package along with an extensive 20-page booklet that includes rare and previously unseen photographs, archival material, and Bishop’s first-ever liner notes.
