Fellow classic rockers took to social media to congratulate the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2016: Deep Purple, Chicago, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick and N.W.A, as well as the 10 acts that didn’t make the cut.
Deep Purple and Cheap Trick’s long-awaited Hall of Fame inductions have met with plenty of praise, but a number of fans and pundits were disappointed by snubs for Yes and Janet Jackson. In an interview with the Washington Post, Miller appeared to be both flattered and bewildered by his win. “When you look at the people not inducted, it’s crazy,” he said. “The Spinners were one of the greatest live acts ever to sing and play. Los Lobos are phenomenal. Chaka Khan? What is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Does anybody know?”
Other rockers took to social media to congratulate longtime friends and colleagues.
Geddy Lee of Rush via Facebook and Twitter (@rushtheband): “Some justice at last! Deep Purple in the Rock Hall! But no Yes??? Are you kidding me??”
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater via Twitter (@MikePortnoy): “Congrats to @DeepPurple on their LONG overdue addition to the R&RHOF!! Now the fun (?) begins…who from the band’s history is going in?”
