After testing positive for Covid-19 for a second time, Ringo Starr has announced the cancellation of the remaining dates of his 2022 North American tour with his All Starr Band. Starr shared the news today (Oct. 13) on his social media platforms noting, “I’m sure you’ll be as surprised as I was.” Several October dates were postponed but he returned for shows on Oct. 11-12 after testing negative. The next show was scheduled for Oct. 14. That and four others have been canceled altogether.
Earlier this year, two of the band members tested positive for Covid. The news of that postponement on June 11, came roughly halfway through the first half of the run which began on May 27. At the time, the remaining dates were combined with an extensive second leg which began Sept. 5. “As the song goes, I’ll see you in September,” said Starr at the time. The classic rock veterans testing positive last June were Edgar Winter and Steve Lukather.
On Oct. 5, Starr announced the release of a live album recorded at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 2019.
“We are so sorry to let the fans down,” said Starr at the time of the original postponement. “It’s been wonderful to be back out on the road and we have been having such a great time playing for you all. But as we all know, Covid is still here and despite being careful these things happen. I want to thank the fans for their patience, I send you all peace and love, and we can’t wait to be back in the Fall.”

The tour was originally scheduled for 2020. On March 27 of that year, he moved it to 2021 citing concern and caution for the well being of fans, crew and staff due to the Covid-19 crisis. The band lineup has changed slightly as well. Continuing are Lukather, Colin Hay, Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette, and Hamish Stuart. Due to scheduling conflicts, Gregg Rolie was replaced by Winter. “This is very difficult for me,” said Starr, when he first postponed the tour in 2020. “In 30 years I think I’ve only missed 2 or 3 gigs nevermind a whole tour. But this is how things are for all of us now, I have to stay in just like you have to stay in, and we all know it’s the peace and loving thing we do for each other.”
The original 2020 tour was announcement on Nov. 4, 2019, on the heels of the release of Ringo’s 20th studio album, What’s My Name. Since then, Starr released three EPs including Zoom In.
