Paul McCartney has canceled his 2020 tour. The listings for all 11 dates of the Freshen Up tour were marked “Canceled” on his Ticketmaster page. The first was scheduled for May 23 in Lille, France.

Though he hasn’t made an announcement on his social media pages, his website confirmed the news: “Due to the current global situation Paul and his team have been forced to cancel the forthcoming European tour dates. Given current and future work commitments it has not been possible to find alternative dates.”

The first date announced was actually the first one canceled. Last Nov. 18, it was revealed that McCartney was to headline the 50th anniversary of the Glastonbury Festival.

Shortly after that news he announced many more 2020 European concerts with shows in Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain.

At the time, Glastonbury co-organizer Emily Eavis said, “Having Paul McCartney coming back to headline the Pyramid next year is an absolute dream come true. There really was no one that we wanted more for the 50th anniversary.”

Glastonbury 2020 was canceled on March 18, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

McCartney turns 78 on June 18, 2020. He had previously performed at Glastonbury in 2004, with a typically massive 33-song set.

Another of McCartney’s scheduled performance at the TW Classic Festival in Belgium on June 21 was canceled on April 15. His Freshen Up tour began in 2018 and continued in 2019, with a combined 39 shows across 12 countries.
