Paul McCartney played a club gig on June 24, 2022, one day before his much ballyhooed return to the Glastonbury Festival. The intimate concert, announced just one day in advance, took place at the Cheese and Grain in the town of Frome. The 800-person, standing-only capacity venue is a former farm produce warehouse that was converted into a concert venue in 1997.

Tickets for the performance at just £25 each [= $30.76] were available at the box office only and were limited to two per person. Not surprisingly, it sold-out within minutes.

McCartney’s website indicated that the June 24 concert wouldn’t be his normal set. It “should be an afternoon full of wonderful surprises.” See the setlist below.

Many without tickets waited outside the venue just to get a glimpse of the legend who had turned 80 years old on June 18.

Fans weren’t allowed to film or photograph the concert. Phones were required to be placed inside a secure bag provided by the event staff. The Cheese and Grain performance was filmed for future use by McCartney’s production company.

Among the boldfaced names said to be in attendance were Olivia Harrison, Brian Johnson, and pop star Olivia Rodrigo.

Late in that set, he was joined by Bruce Springsteen for two songs, who then returned to close the show with another veteran rocker.
