Tommy LSO LP CoverA1972 recording of The Who’s rock opera Tommy performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and Chambre Choir and featuring guest performances by a veritable Who’s Who of classic rock stars is being reissued on September 11 – coinciding with the second US leg of The Who Hits 50! tour.

The recording – out of physical print for over 30 years – features Who members Pete Townshend as the Narrator, Roger Daltrey as Tommy and John Entwistle as Cousin Kevin. Other members of British rock royalty on the recording include Ringo Starr as Uncle Ernie, Steve Winwood as the Father and Rod Stewart, who sings “Pinball Wizard.” Also supplementing the 104-piece LSO and 60-voice choir are guest performers Richard Harris, Merry Clayton and Richie Havens.

The set is being re-mastered on CD and grey vinyl (with the original design concept libretto and 20-page color booklet which earned a Grammy for Best Album Package), and will be available as a digital download.
