John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band are celebrating their 50+ years with the April 10, 2025, release of a new album, Sound of Waves, via Moonstone Music. What makes the news of the album so unique is that it represents their first studio effort in 37 years.

In 1982, Cafferty was commissioned to write and perform the soundtrack for a film that turned out to be Eddie and the Cruisers. The movie, which started Michael Paré, Tom Berenger, Joe Pantoliano and Ellen Barkin, became a rock cult classic with a triple platinum soundtrack. Cafferty’s soulful, raspy voice propelled the movie’s theme “On the Dark Side” to #1 on the Billboard rock chart and #7 on the Hot 100 as well as heavy rotation on MTV. A second song, “Tender Years,” reached the Top 10 of the Billboard A/C chart.

John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band continue to tour around the world, including their new album release concert at the Cutting Room. He says the new album almost didn’t happen. After almost four decades of not writing or recording, he was encouraged by Bruce Springsteen to do it again. Cafferty ended up writing all 13 songs on Sound of Waves. It’s available to order here.

Over the years, Cafferty and the band have jammed on stage with many of the greats of rock and roll, including Springsteen, Bob Seger, Jon Bon Jovi, and Dion, and opened on tour for the Beach Boys, Foreigner, and Bryan Adams. Starting May 28, Cafferty joins Rick Springfield on selected dates of his “I Want My 80s” tour, along with John Waite and Wang Chung. Tickets for those shows as well as some headlining dates are available here.

The title track from the group’s 1985 album, Tough All Over, became their second #1 on the Billboard rock chart. Cafferty has placed 35 songs in feature films including Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky IV and Cobra, as well as the Farrelly Brothers’ There’s Something About Mary and Dumb and Dumber Too.

The Rhode Island rockers put out their Greatest Hits album in 2022. [It’s available here.] In addition to Cafferty, two original members remain in the group, guitarist Gary Gramolini and saxophonist Michael “Tunes” Antunes.
