Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits Gets Vinyl Reissue

Among the titles that Legacy Recordings announced today (Oct. 17) for this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday (Nov. 24) event is a special vinyl reissue of 1973’s Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits. Though the album will also be available to traditional music retailers one week later (Dec. 1), the RSD limited edition will be on “green smoke” colored vinyl in the U.S. and pink and blue splatter clear vinyl for European countries.

The announcement indicates that the vinyl version of the hits collection is being released for the first time in 27 years. The U.S. version is limited to 3500 copies. The album’s 12 songs include Joplin recordings made with Big Brother & the Holding Company, the Kozmic Blues Band, the Full Tilt Boogie Band and solo work.

Record Store Day had its 10th anniversary last April. The annual event celebrates the unique cultures that surround thousands of independently owned, brick-and-mortar record stores in the U.S. and abroad. The organization has been throwing a second, slightly smaller version of the event for Black Friday, redirecting holiday shoppers’ focus back to local businesses.

Best Classic Bands will have a recap of the classic rock titles that are being released for RSD Black Friday 2017.
