Beatles fans touring Liverpool on Monday morning (July 20, 2026) were in for the surprise of their lives when the bus they were riding in was stopped at a traffic light. While waiting for the light to change on Hope Street, they spotted a passenger in a car waving at them. It turned out to be none other than Paul McCartney. But wait… it gets better: Sir Paul then displayed his phone out of the vehicle window, revealing who he was in the act of speaking with on FaceTime. Sure enough, it was none other than Ringo Starr.

“It was surreal,” driver Neil Morton told the BBC. Morton has driven the Magical Mystery Tour bus around various Beatle sights in Liverpool for two years. “He waved to us and everybody took photos,” Morton said.

Both Beatles have released well-received albums in 2026. Ringo’s LP, Long Long Road, his second consecutive Americana album, arrived on April 24. He has a tour with the All Starr Band this fall. McCartney’s The Boys of Dungeon Lane was released on May 29. It’s expected that he’ll announce a tour for later this year.
The Magical Mystery Tour is Liverpool’s original scheduled Beatles sightseeing tour. Established in 1983 by Cavern City Tours, the owners of the world‑famous Cavern Club, it has played a pioneering role in shaping the Beatles tourism industry.
