From the July 29 announcement: Formed in Wolverhampton, U.K. in 1966, Slade‘s chart career spanned three decades. They were one of Europe’s biggest bands throughout the seventies with numerous hit albums, including three that topped the U.K. charts. Many of their hit singles are synonymous with the era. The songwriting partnership of Noddy Holder and Jim Lea provided a soundtrack to the Glam Generation and with an unprecedented run of 17 consecutive Top 20 U.K. singles between 1971 and 1976.

In the ’80s, Slade enjoyed a renaissance, buoyed by an appearance at the Reading Festival in 1980 and their return to the top of the charts with 1983’s “My oh My” 1984’s “Run Runaway.” Top 40 programmers in the U.S. largely ignored the band, with just a minor showing on the charts in the early ’70s. It wasn’t until “Run Runaway” that the band earned their only Top 20 pop hit in the U.S.
