Fans Embrace Rolling Stones ‘Hackney Diamonds’ 2024 Tour

As expected, the Rolling Stones have added second dates in the New York area as well as in Chicago and Los Angeles to their “Hackney Diamonds” 2024 tour. The news, due to “overwhelming demand” arrived on November 29, 2023, the first day of the tour’s pre-sale. The band had announced the first 16 dates at 8 a.m. ET on Nov. 21. The North American tour, sponsored by AARP, is named for the 2023 studio album that was officially unveiled at a London press event on September 6. The band’s first album of all-new material, released on October 20, has earned solid reviews from the press and fans alike. Tickets for the general public for all dates go on sale Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. local time here.

The band made a teaser post across its social media platforms on Nov. 17 with a 33-second clip of “Street Fighting Man” that featured brief images of both a red maple leaf and the stars-and-stripes, representing Canada and the U.S.

When the Rolling Stones closed their 2022 tour—named “Sixty” to mark the band’s 60th anniversary—on August 3 in Berlin, Germany, two months after it opened on June 1 in Madrid, Spain, Mick Jagger told the crowd that it was the last night of “our European tour.” Perhaps it was optimism on our part, but it implied that there would be more dates to come elsewhere. Finally, on New Year’s Eve, the Stones posted a “Happy New Year” message on their social media platforms. The key words in the very brief note were “See you in 2023!!” While no further details were offered at the time, they released Hackney Diamonds and played a one-off club date in New York on October 19. (The 2022 tour was limited to 14 concerts, all in Europe and the U.K. The band’s previous tour was the 2021 U.S. edition of their “No Filter” tour – held entirely in the U.S. and first without Charlie Watts.)

For many years, the Stones’ tour schedule has offered them many days off in between shows, and for good reason. Jagger turned 80 last July 26. Keith Richards hits that number on December 18. Ronnie Wood is a relative youngster, having turned 76 last June 1. On the 2022 tour, the trio was joined, once again, by drummer Steve Jordan, Darryl Jones (bass), Chuck Leavell (piano/organ), Karl Denson (sax), Tim Ries (sax) Matt Clifford (keyboards), and Bernard Fowler/Sasha Allen (backing vocals).
If you’ve seen the Stones perform in recent years, then you know they’ve still got game.

On Nov. 30, the Stones announced the forthcoming release of Hackney Diamonds (Live Edition) featuring all seven tracks performed at the Oct. 19 launch event at Racket in New York City. The 2-CD set includes debut performances of four tracks from the recent album including “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” (with Lady Gaga) as well as performances of “Shattered,” “Tumbling Dice,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” It’s available to pre-order in the U.K. here or via the first Amazon link below.
