Legendary guitarist Brian May of Queen joined rising American star Benson Boone at the end of the latter’s performance during the first day of Coachella last night (April 11, 2025) for a spectacular performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The 22-year-old singer-songwriter, initially seated behind a piano while draped in a regal cape, was joined by a choir to tackle the song that’s considered to be too difficult to perform, due to the complexity of its studio recording as well as its author Freddie Mercury’s superhuman vocals.

As Boone finished the line “and now I’ve gone and thrown it all away,” he rose and stood atop the piano. He took off his cape and did a mind-blowing flip onto the stage. He kept his composure as he walked to center stage. Shortly before the two-minute mark in the clip below, May suddenly appeared to perform one of the classic rock song’s memorable guitar solos as Boone introduced him to the audience.

Then it was Boone’s turn again as he and the choir performed the complex song’s operatic portion. Boone clearly channeled his inner-Mercury, commanding the stage, striding confidently while singing.

At the 3:30 mark, all eyes were once again on the 77-year-old May for the hard rocking portion of the song.

Benson, born June 25, 2002, appeared on American Idol in 2021, but voluntarily withdrew from the competition. After releasing several singles, he issued his debut album, Fireworks & Rollerblades, in 2024. Its lead single, “Beautiful Things,” reached #2 on the Hot 100 and went to #1 in numerous countries. He took the opportunity during his Coachella performance to announce his second album, American Heart, coming on June 20. His recordings are available here.
