When Paul McCartney Opened His 2019 ‘Freshen Up’ Tour
by Best Classic Bands StaffPaul McCartney resumed his “Freshen Up” tour in Santiago, Chile on March 20, 2019, with a 39-song career-spanning set at National Stadium that included several songs from his well-received 2018 album, Egypt Station.
The tour continued that month with four other South American shows. After a break, he began a U.S. tour on May 23 that continued through July 13.

Sir Paul had performed 18 dates on the tour in 2018, which started Sept. 17 with the first of four Canadian shows that also took him to Japan, Europe, the U.K. and two dates in Austin, Tex.
McCartney kicked off 2019’s opener with “A Hard Day’s Night”
The first dates of the “Freshen Up” tour were announced on July 3, 2018. The tour followed his “One on One” tour that spanned 2016-2017.

Midway through the set, McCartney, 76, was on acoustic guitar for “Eleanor Rigby.”
The Beatles’ 1968 self-titled double album was represented by five songs, including the song about Desmond and Molly Jones.
He closed the main set with a flourish: “Let It Be,” a fireworks display that accompanyied “Live and Let Die,” followed by “Hey Jude.”
