Joe Walsh headlined his annual VetsAid benefit concert on November 12, 2023, with an eight-song set with several of his classic rock favorites including “Life’s Been Good” and “Funk #49.” The star was joined by fellow legend Stephen Stills for three songs: covers of Stills’ “For What It’s Worth” and “Love the One You’re With” as well as a blistering performance of Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way.” The previous April, Walsh was a guest performer at the 2023 edition of Stills’ “Light Up the Blues” benefit concert.

Veterans and their wellbeing have always been important to Walsh, a Gold Star son himself. His father was a flight instructor for the first U.S. operational jet powered aircraft, the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star, and died while stationed and on active duty on Okinawa when Walsh was 20 months old.

VetsAid hosted its inaugural show on September 20, 2017 with a concert at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA featuring performances by Walsh, Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban and Gary Clark Jr. As he took the stage for his 2023 Sunday night set, Walsh said, “If you’re a vet, thanks for your service.” He opened his set with “In the City” and “Life’s Been Good.”

For song #4, it was time for “Funk #49.”

In 2023, VetsAid will disburse grants exclusively to organizations based in Southern California or with operations on the ground in Southern California.

Stills joined Walsh’s band to sing lead on a Buffalo Springfield classic.

Walsh took the reins on an electric “Rocky Mountain Way.”
